YouthBuild is headed to the U.S. Green Building Council’s Greenbuild International Conference and Expo, November 13-16 in San Francisco, the world’s largest conference and expo dedicated to green building!
YouthBuild will have a significant presence at Greenbuild 2012, including –
- 40 YouthBuild California Coalition students, graduates, and staff volunteering at the Greenbuild recycling center and other locations.
- The national partnership between Saint-Gobain and YouthBuild USA highlighted at, Non-profit/For-profit Green Affordable Housing Partnerships, an education session that focuses on how YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School students, with the assistance of Saint-Gobain and CertainTeed employees, recently completed the green renovation of a two-family home. This home has been submitted to the local chapter of the USGBC for LEED Platinum certification.
- Ely Flores, LA CAUSA YouthBuild graduate, introducing Greenbuild 2012 Master Series Speaker Van Jones, President and Co-Founder, Rebuild the Dream, a pioneering initiative to restore jobs and economic opportunity.
- YouthBuild USA and the California YouthBuild Coalition hosting a booth on the expo floor. Attendees are invited to visit the booth at 5651W to speak with YouthBuild graduates and students about opportunities to partner with local YouthBuild programs and YouthBuild USA’s Green Initiative. The YouthBuild USA booth was donated by the USGBC and outfitted by Freeman Company.
YouthBuild USA and the U.S. Green Building Council have partnered since 2010 to engage YouthBuild participants at Greenbuild 2010 Chicago, 2011 Toronto, and now 2012 San Francisco. During the three years of the partnership, for Greenbuild, 65 YouthBuild volunteers have served as volunteers, 15 local program and YouthBuild USA staff has attended on scholarship, and the Illinois and California YouthBuild Coalitions have increased education opportunities and LEED certifications with their local USGBC chapters.
